Default The Art of Bidding

If you have 5 spade with J, Q and K being the top three spade and Ace of
all the other 3 suit.

What would be your max bid ?

Any pro here like to share the art of bidding ?

i am not a pro but i think 3 spade is the best. can try calling ace spade as partner, and throw the lower spade for him to win the set. or try calling someone who have alot of shape that you dun have so u can use ur trump to win.

with such a good hand, you do not necessary nd to win the bid:lol

quoted from wikipedia:

"By way of strategy, if the winner has a strong clubs hand but lacks the ace of clubs, he may want to consider calling the holder of the ace of clubs to be his partner.

Or, if his club suit was very long but lacked the ace, it may be better to call the holder of say the ace of hearts to cover his singleton in the hearts suit so that he can later ruff.

The possibilities are endless, and it all really depends on keeping track of the bidding and guessing who may have the aces, or the long suits, whichever strategy that is applicable."

For me i choose the suit i had the most to be the contract. then i will choose other suit ACE as my partner(why? because u got more contract card and u can use the contract when the least card suit finish and if choose ACe means u can guarantee 1 win)

Quote; if u see pple bidded the contract u had least. win the bid or else u sure lose in the end.(most probably)but if really u cant bid anymore give up.(depends on situation)normally dun bid more than 3 unless u got a great cards:lol:lol.

i agreed with beckk23, but in this case, eamtan say u have ace of three other suit so maybe king?

ya. personally think lvl 3 sld be the max, lvl 4 is possible but also nd ur partners' help:lol if the person bid the suit tat u totally dun have one or high chance u will lose, i normally will try to push up the bid, max is 3NT, if he bid 4, pass:lol

Good play and bad bidding will take you further than good bidding and bad play.

lol. true. means good play is more important than good bidding la:lol

calling the right partner is very important, best teamwork:handshake: is those who dun have one different suit each (eg he dun have hearts aka heartless;P and i dun have club) then the trump is spade which we have enough. i throw heart, he can use trump. then he throw club, i can use trump:lol

eamtam, your team can win at least 7 sets/tricks, i.e, your opponent team can only win up to 6 sets.

basically your opponent team can't win more than 6 sets/tricks... they should not be bidding any contract... unless partner you.

But if you gung-ho 10 sets/tricks, either you and partner need to win 3 more sets. it may be possible if your partner win more between round 8 to 13.

So the max bid is really up to you. It is your decision and your calculation of chances. luck... hmm... may play a little help... You have to go for 2NT, 3NT, 4NT.

For example...

Round 1 2(spade) 3(spade) A(spade) 4(spade) partner win
Round 2 K(spade) 5(spade) 6(spade) 7(spade) you win
Round 3 Q(spade) 8(spade) 9(spade) 10(spade) you win
Round 4 A(dia) 2(dia) 3(dia) 4(dia) you win
Round 5 A(club) 2(club) 3(club) 4(club) you win
Round 6 A(hearts) 2(hearts) 3(hearts) 4(hearts) you win
Round 7 J(spade) 5(dia) 5(club) 5(hearts) you win
Round 8 K(dia) 6(dia) 7(dia) 8(dia)
Round 9 K(club) 6(club) 7(club) 8(club)
Round 10 K(hearts) 6(hearts) 7(hearts) 8(hearts)
Round 11 Q(dia) 9(dia) 10 J(dia)
Round 12 Q(club) 9(club) 10(club) J(club)
Round 13 Q(hearts) 9(hearts) 10(hearts) J(hearts)

On the final note, despite you having very nice cards, the person can bid 7NT and choose you as partner... ***** up everything for you...

so good luck... that is why good play and bad bidding will take you further than good bidding and bad play....

more chim?

1. If the hand is balanced and the high card points are between 15 and 17, then bid 1NT.

2. If the high card points are between 11 and 23 and the hand contains at least 5 hearts, then bid 1♥.

yup.sometimes it's fun when u have ALOT of one suit..and especially when it's strong in that suit. U dont necessarily have to bid for that suit...u can bid for NT instead:lol eat up all the other's cards...den u can eat everyone's card wif a 2

2NT enough liao.

To win this bid, opp have to call 3 something. Means u only need 5 - comeon.

Either way high chance to win.

alas, call the right partner is essential. I'l definitely call other suits other than my strong suit coz after Aspade jumps out, u still have e biggest 3spades!

I.e. after Aspade jumps out, u have all the biggest cards and most probably win all spade thereafter.

Patience also virtue..

erm, i think in this case, he high chance will be the winning bidder's partner cause he got 3 ace of other suit (ppl tend to call ace:lol).

it is also unlikely that opp will call spade as eamtam's spade is quite gd:lol

just my 2 cents worth;P

well, i cant say anything much cuz i need to see the whole hand. if u have more other spade, let say 3 more, even lousy spade like 2,3,4, i can immediately bid for 4NT n ask for ace of spade. If u have other dominate suit, u can bid for partner for that suit. So it is totally different playing method depending on the rest of ur cards.
