1.What is Bidding? When u start the game, you will be ask to make a bid. DO NOT BID 7! Every game starts with 6 points. (this is the base point) If u bid 1, u need to have 6+1=7 points to win. This means your and your partner's points must add up to 7points in order to win the game. Bid 2= 6+2=8 Bid 3= 6+3=9 Bid 7= 6+7=13 That's why u cannot bid 7.. If u bid 7, this means that u and ya partner have to win all the rounds to win. This is beacause a set of suits only have 13 cards. So accumulate 13 points for both you and your partner is obviously quite hard. You dun always have to bid. If you don't want to bid, Click pass. I suggest if it is ya first time, u pass first to see how others play. 2: So What is contract? If for eg: u bid 1 diamond. The contract will show 1 diamond. The diamond cards will become a triumph. Triumph in Chinese means it is a "Wang Pai". With the triumph card, u can "Eat" other people cards. You can only use the triumph when the triumph is broken. Triumph is broken when someone throw it out. (ie: this usually occurs when a person do not have the certain shape/suit on the table and decided to throw the triumph card to triump ("eat") that card on the table.) 3.What is partner? The game is about partnering. When a person win a bid, the next step is to choose the partner. For eg: if a person have KQJ10. The person will usually choose Ace as partner. So that there is higher chance of winning. Usually, people do not partner themselves. Partnering yourself means u choose a card that you already have. If you partner yourself, then u have to win the game by yourself without a partner. 4. What is NT? NT = No Triump = No Wang Pai This means there is no wang pai that you can use. You throw the card according to the colour thrown. ie 1: player 1 (the person who throw the card 1st) throw 2heart player 2 throw 3heart player 3 throw 4heart If YOU are player 4: To get 1 point, you need to throw a bigger card ie: 5 hearts. ie2: player 1: throw Ace-heart You are player 2: And you have K-heart. You dun need to throw K since its smaller. Throw the smallest card you have so that you can save the King for later to get 1 point. ie3:You are player 1: you have KQJ-Spade but no Ace. Throw a smaller card hoping to lure out the Ace, so that you can use our KQJ later. (edited - pls read eamtan explaination) 5. How to throw card To throw a card, click one card. When it stick out. Click play. The card will be thrown out. 6. Why I cant throw my card You have to throw your cards according to the colour of the card on the table. ie: if a diamond is on the table. you throw diamond you canot throw another card such as spade, club (flower) or hearts. 7. Is Ace or 2 bigger? Ace is biggest. 2 is smallest. 8. Why i try to bid but i cant? The order of the colour is smallest: Club-flower Diamond Hearts Biggest:Spade ie: If someone bid 1 club U must bid higher ie: 1 diamond 9. How to wash card If you dun like your cards you can wash. but this can only happen when everyones pass their turn to bid. If you are the last bidder, and you see that everyone pass. (ie: their box say P=pass, then it is courtesy to pass also so that the cards can be washed. 10. Who is my partner? If a person win a bid and the partner box says Diamond Ace, and you have Diamond Ace. This means you are the partner. If you dont have it, then you are not the partner. The other 2person which did not win the bid might be your partner. The game is also abit about guessing the partner. So people usually do not tell others that they are the bidder's partner by saying it out. This is to make the game more challenging and exciting. The guessing part takes a bit of experience. The partner will only be revealed if that partner throw out the partner card. When is it a good time to bid? You usually bid the cards which you have the most. Edited: *Quoted from eamtam* If you have 6 cards or more of a certain flower (shape), and provided the card have a certain chance of winning (not too small), you stands a good chance to go for a bid. An example of a set of 6 cards with smaller chance of winning is ie: For eg if you have ♠2,3,4,5,6,7 ♥J ♦2,3 ♣A,3,10 This this case you shouldn't bid too high or may choose not to bid at all, since there are many other bigger spades around that can "Eat" (triumph) you up. An example of a set of 6 cards with higher chance of winning is ie: you have ♠K,Q,J,10,8,7,2 ♥10 ♦J,2 ♣2,3,6 You may bid for spade starting with 1 spade . And you may want to choose ♠A as your partner to defend u. Generally, you can bid higher if you have more good cards in which you think you have a higher chance of winning and stop bidding when you think the chance of winning is lower. Know your limits when bidding *Below Contributed by vstarling* Do not try to outbid JUST BECAUSE the previous bidder is bidding a suit which u don't have. Bid (above 4 )only when: 1) You are really strong in a certain suit/other suits. 2) You are confident of calling a partner which compliments with you well. 3) You are sure of being able to stop the other group from obtaining their number of sets required (e.g for bid 4, the other group just need to make 4 sets.) ********** below contribution: shi_san_yeow "Opposition" how many sets to win? If contract is 3 spade Bidder and partner would: 3 + 6 = 9 sets to win. Opposition would need: Meanwhile, if u are not his partner, u and your other anonymous partner (the Opposition) only needs: 14 - 9= 5 sets for opposition to win. Why do you use 14 and not 13 since there are 13 cards? Contract = 3 Bidder need 9 sets if bidder only win 8 sets -- lose and opposition gets 5 sets -- win 8+5=13 ********** Secrecy As mentioned this game is of utmost secrecy whereby only the partner who is being called knows he/she is the partner of the bidder (person holding the crown). The partner must try to help, ideally secretly, by observing the game closely. If King previously keeps bidding against a certain suit, likely King has little of that suit, so partner can throw that suit out to "let him eat". ********** No secrecy It is not always necessary to have secrecy, though it's more fun that way. Here we do not mean that u reveal yourself and tells the partner by typing out "hey I'm your partner". But by revealing yourself through throwing that called card. For example, if bidder bid 5 Spades,(He better have quite some Spade), then it's probably better for the partner to reveal himself earlier. This is to prevent unintentionally, triumphing the wrong card ("eat wrongly") or placing the wrong card. Example of wrong triumph/eating wrongly: Lets say you are the partner and you throw A hearts. If bidder did not know that you are his partner,he may triumph/eat you with 2 Spade! Ouch! Placing wrong cards: This arises when the bidder makes a wrong assumption/guess thinking that another players is his partner. When this happen, the bidder may make a mistake by allowing that assumed partner (the other player) to win the set despite the fact that he could have won that set by himself! Xianz Given that the "Opposition" only need 3 sets to win, it is therefore advisable to reveal early than late. ********** Trust Never trust other players. You should always eat if in doubt! The reasoning is that "Eat wrongly" is better than "let go wrongly", I think. If u trust other players and cause the game to lose, the least u can do is dun complain about your partner. Lol.. ********** Points A = 4 points K = 3 points Q = 2 points J = 1 point "5 of a suit" = 1 point (Yes, even if it's just 23456 - xianz). So if u only have 2 Qs in your hand: Congrats, u have the least possible number of points, which is 4 points. There is a high chance that other players would have very high points. ie: lots of Ks and As.. On the contrary, if u have 3 As and 3Ks: You have very high points and chances are someone's cards is really bad (cannot make it). So dun try anything funny when u have low points. Without enough firepower, it is unlike that you can bluff those with cannons. So better dont try! lol.. ********** Who's gonna call you? Does not mean u have lots of firepower means u must bid! Be careful, sometimes bidders will end up calling u! If for example u have A Spade, only 1 spade, and AKJ98Hearts: Someone bid 1 Spade - what do u do? Hearts is your stronger suit, BUT if u bid 2 Hearts, chances are someone will bid up to 2 Spade and so on, until they happily reach 4 Spade. Then the person who won the bid might call you as his partner, since u have A spade. - ultimate xianz. So the more u bid, the more u are kinda going against yourself and you would become the eventual partner regardless whether you like it or not.. 1 Spade easier to win than 4 Spade, at least - The King might really have lots of Spades.. Another example: Click link to see screen shot: http://img240.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dunbidtv1.jpg In this situation, Shi San Yeow's stronger suit is clubs. In this situation, the strongest suit for shi_san_yeow is Clubs. But, qYYP is bidding hearts and shi_san_yeow have Ace Hearts. I can be dangerous for shi_san_yeow to up bid to 3 Clubs, if qYYp is going to upbid to 3 hearts and eventually end up calling shi_san_yeow. in other words, if shi_san_yeow were to continue up bidding, he/she is likely yo be bidding against him/herself. So beware, observe, strategies, and u will prevail! Lol.. ********** --------------------------------------------------------------- I think thats about it. Its really hard to explain in a few words about winning strategy and how to win. So to begin, it is advisable to join a low lvl room (ie lvl 1 n 2) or create your own Lvl 1 room to test and figure out what is happening. If all of the players do not know how to play, you guys may start by saying that you are the bidder's partner. So at least it is made clear who is whose partner, while still trying to figure out how to play a game. Ps: Thx for the contribution =) Will try to add it in to consolidate the guide and it may be subjected to edits. Hopefully, we dun have the problem of not enough players anymore. Most importantly lesser people trying to Bid 7

Well written guide.
However, regarding 'ie3:You are player 1: you have KQJ-Spade but no Ace. Throw a smaller card to lure out the Ace, so that you can use our KQJ later. ' Throwing a smaller card might not necessary lure out the Ace. Throwing a smaller card is in hope to lure out the Ace. 13 cards divide by 4 players is average 4 rounds. If one have 6 cards or more of a certain flower, and provided the card have a certain chance of winning (not too small), he stands a good chance to go for a bid. If got more cards, can bid higher. If card are bigger, can also go for higher bid.

Nice effort.
I wanna add too. Know your limits when bidding. Do not try to outbid JUST BECAUSE the previous bidder is bidding a suit which u don't have. Bid (above 4 ) only when: 1) You are really strong in a certain suit/other suits. 2) You are confident of calling a partner which compliments with you well. 3) You are sure of being able to stop the other group from obtaining their number of sets required (e.g for bid 4, the other group just need to make 4 sets.)

This is a great effort to teach new players!
Assuming the one who wins the bid is the "King" - since has the crown.. ********** "Opposition" how many sets to win? Do note that it's 2 vs 2, so if King bidded 2 spade, King and partner needs 2 + 6 = 8sets to win. Meanwhile, if u are not his partner, u and ur other annonymous partner (Opposition) only needs to win 14 - 8 to win. Y 14? Coz can only have 1 pair of winners, if 13 can draw ma - think abt it. ********** Secrecy Therefore in a game of almost secrecy, only the partner being called knows he/she is the partner of the King. And the partner muz try to help, ideally, secretly, by observing the game closely. If King previously keeps bidding against a certain suit, likely King has little of that suit, so partner can throw that suit out to "let him eat". ********** No secrecy Not always must be in secrecy, though it's more fun that way. If, for example, King bidded 5 Spades (He better have quite some Spade, lol), then it's probably better for the partner to reveal himself earlier as not much room to "eat wrongly" or "let go wrongly". If 5 Spades, "Opposition" only need 3 sets to win! Eat wrongly - Partner throw A hearts but King dunno partner is his partner, so King eat partner with a 2 Spade! Ouch! Let go wrongly - King assumes other player is his partner and let them win the set when King can win it himself! Xianz.. ********** Beware Never trust other players, eat if in doubt! Lol.. Eat wrongly better than let go wrongly, I think. If u trust other players and cause the game, the least u can do is dun complain abt ur partner. Lol.. ********** Points A = 4 points K = 3 points Q = 2 points J = 1 point "5 of a suit" = 1 point (Yes, even if it's just 23456 - xianz). So if u only have 2 Qs in your hand, congrats, u have the least possible no of points(4) and very high chance other players have very high points - lots of Ks and As.. On the contrary, if u have 3 As and 3Ks, u have very high points and chances are someone's cards really cmi. So dun try anything funny when u have low points - not enough firepower, cannot bluff those with cannons wan, so better dun try! lol.. ********** Who's gonna call you? Does not mean u haf lots of firepower means u muz bid! be careful, sometimes bidders will end up calling u! If for example u haf A Spade, only 1 spade, and AKJ98Hearts: Someone bid 1 Spade - what do u do? Hearts is ur stronger suit, BUT if u bid 2 Hearts, chances are someone will up to 2 Spade and so on, until happily reach 4 Spade then King call u as partner, since u have A spade - ultimate xianz. So the more u bid, the more u are kinda going against urself and ur eventual (like it or not) partner.. 1 Spade easier to win than 4 Spade, at least - The King might really have lots of Spades.. So beware, observe, strategise, and u will prevail! Lol.. ********** Hope my 2 cents worth helped clear things up a little, salute to rena92 for her efforts in helping new players learn. There are never enough Bridge players around, let's make it easier for them to join us! Heez..
