Dear Viwawa Players,

This post is to explain the structure behind the new ranking system which will be released by tomorrow. There may be minor changes as we grow, but the overall gist of what's explained here will stay.

Note that the calculation of rankings will take into account your game activity since the first day of joining Viwawa. The only thing that considers time is the decay of points due to inactivity.


Individual Game Rankings

There are 5 main factors contributing to the individual game rankings. The exact weightage is internally computed and may adjust very slowly over time if necessary.

Level/experience
Level and experience gained in the game, this is shown in the player's profile page. Higher level/experience will obvious lead to better ranks.

Player Skill
This is a score computed based on performance against players of different skill levels. It works on the rule that defeating a player with a high skill score will earn you more points. The skill score is internal and will not be known to yourself nor your opponents.

Skill points will increase at its fastest when you play and win against different players. It will show your true mettle and prove your rank in the game. It will prove much faster than trying to select your opponents.

Losing too many times in a row may reduce this score significantly. If this score goes negative, you will not be ranked at all.

Competition achievements (to be implemented later)
Top players in the regular competitions that we hold will get a bonus score in the rankings as well. The score will vary according to the achievement and importance of competition.

Live competitions (e.g. WCG, CAPL, etc) will typically give a higher score than the regular online ones.

Score Decay
A percentage score will be deducted for each month where a player had been deemed inactive within that month over a period of 6 months. Maximum deduction is hence implemented to players who had been deemed inactive in that game in the past 6 months. Inactivity is determined by number of matches played in that game within that month. Exact number is not fixed nor revealed and subject to minor adjustments over time as more games are added in Viwawa.

Example
In the past 6 months, a player was inactive for 4 months. So he/she will get a penalty for each of the 4 months of inactivity.

Minimum Matches
In order to be ranked at all in a game, a player must have played a minimum number of matches in that game (total matches since day 1). Failing which, the player will be unranked - equivalent to being last in that game.

If the player had been completely inactive (i.e. 0 matches) in that game for the past 6 months or more, he/she will not be ranked in that game.


Global Rankings

The global rankings will show a player's overall performance in ALL games. It is based on the player's ranking in each game.

Being the top player in a few games may not be enough to be at the top of the global ranks. You will need to get a decent rank in more games to reach the top.


Future Additions

As mentioned in the previous rankings thread, we are implementing a system that allows players to have an easier time finding opponents. It will also play a part in this ranking calculation. Details to be announced soon.


* The rankings are calculated daily at around 04:00 +8GMT.

** The rankings for Dynasty Chess and Speedoku will be available at a later date.

wait...i got a question, so if i am aiming for overall ranking... and i hav to play all the games, every mth..
so...
how many games??

min is how many??.. because seriously... it is not easy to play all the games.... every mth.
maybe set at 20 games per mth??..
coz if set at 50... difficult..

i can't even split up playing 50 games a mth
